1. Getting started with MS Access

Go to File>> New >> click on the ?Blank Database? on the right

2. Linking Databases

Go to File>> Get External Data>> Link Tables


In the Link window Go to Files of Type>> click on the arrow for a drop down list and select ?ODBC Databases?

Select the ?Machine Data Source? >> select the data source name used for the Data warehouse, like in this case its ?Warehouse? >> click OK

Enter your Data warehouse ?LoginID? and ?Password? >> Hit OK

Selecting tables: Check the type of report you require from the ECOS, IT webpage
On the Link Tables window select the required tables (Note: you can select more than one table on this window) >> Hit OK

The Unique Record Identifier is already determined by the University Data Warehouse
Hit Cancel (This window will appear for the number of tables you?ve selected)

You will then see that the tables you had selected are now linked

3. Creating queries in SQL view

On the database window click on the Queries under Objects Tab >> Double click Create Query in design view

On the Show Table window hit Close

Go to View >> SQL View

Go to the ECOS, IT web page and copy the required SQL query and paste (hit CTRL+V) in this Select Query text box.
(Overwrite the word ?Select;? that already exist in the text box)
Make sure that the query that you?ve pasted has a semi-colon (;) at the end of the last sentence.

4. Compiling queries and checking the results

Next, Save the query
Then Run the query and see the results

In case you would like to modify the query you can do that in the design view.
Select the query that you saved and open it in design view
